What to Expect: Frequently Asked Questions
This all sounds amazing. How do I sign up?
Please the contact form on the relevant page to register your interest for each game you wish to play in. Due to data protection legislation we ask that each player complete this, including any individual preferences. Game designers will do their best to accommodate them. If you have any individual needs, particularly regarding accessing a venue, it's worth mentioning at this point. If you have more general enquiries, use the main contact form.
What happens to my data?
The game designer receives an email with your contact form information. This allows them to keep track of numbers and also keep in contact with game-specific information. In some games there is an element of pre-planning and teams may want/need to communicate in advance. Your contact details will only be shared with your team if you give consent.
The information you share through the contact form is also stored securely by the website. We will add you to the Pennine newsletter as this contains game updates, although you may choose to unsubscribe at any time. We will never sell your data and the newsletter goes out on a quarterly basis. For more information see our privacy policy.
My friends and I want to be in a group :) I have no friends who want to come :(
Megagaming is a social experience and you are highly likely to meet people who will become good friends. Game designers are often happy to put existing friends together, particularly if you are new players although this may limit the roles available to you. Many people attend on their own too and enjoy the chance to work with new faces.
How do I pay?
A few months before the game you will be asked to pay a non-refundable £10 deposit to secure your place and the £20 balance nearer the day. Payment is usually via PayPal but if this is an issue you should contact the designer.
What information can I expect?
Game materials - game designers initially provide information on the game setting, before role outlines are published, to help you choose your role. Game handbooks and a team briefing are usually provided a couple of weeks in advance. Individual briefings and objectives are usually provided nearer or on the day, in case players need to be moved around.
Game briefing - this will take place a few weeks before the event. These are part of our regular Pennine Planning events calendar and are open to anyone who is interested. They also provide an ideal chance to discuss and plan your own megagame.
I'm devasted, I can't make it to the game now. What should I do?
If you cannot make the game for any reason, please let the game runner know as soon as possible, so arrangements can be made as we often have waiting lists and may also need to move players around. Due to the costs inherent in putting a game on, £10 of the balance may be refunded up to two weeks before the game. After this no refunds can be given.
On the day
The game will run from around 9.30 until 5pm, starting with a briefing and finishing with a quick debrief before the pub. The game does not stop for lunch, but most of our venues allow you to bring your own refreshments and drinks are provided.
Last thing, I promise. There are loads people in fancy dress in your photos. Is it expected?
Whilst many people do enjoy dressing up for their role, it varies between individuals and games. It is certainly not expected and if given a choice. game designers would prefer it if players read both briefings and rules carefully ;)
